After releasing her debut R&B jazz single “Gentleman” last year, U.K. singer-songwriter Aiva performed extensively across London. However, due to the pandemic, the live shows were put on pause and the artist instead turned to connecting with listeners online and also writing new songs.
Recently, Aiva put out her latest single “Skin,” which retains her soulful jazz and R&B sound. Throughout the song, the musician sings about her struggles and imperfections over sultry guitar and keyboard parts while her voice shines with dynamism. “For a while, I was a stranger in my own skin and I had to share that to help anyone that might be feeling lost too,” says Aiva. The song was recorded at U.K.-based Gee Studios and produced, arranged and mastered by Ife Gee.
The pandemic has taught the singer-songwriter to look after herself physically, emotionally and mentally. She says, “It was a very difficult time emotionally with no outlet.” Aiva adds, “That is why I decided to release ‘Skin’ and be open about my insecurities, challenges and allow this vulnerability to make others feel less alone.” Coming up is another single for 2021, one which Aiva explains is her “biggest song to date.”
