Aksh Baghla Performs a Hindi Mashup and Chats with Ellie Goulding
The Indian singer-songwriter and YouTuber spoke witht the British pop artist about her new album ‘Higher Than Heaven’
YouTuber Aksh Baghla only recently made the leap into releasing original music, starting with his song “Tere Jaisa” with K-pop artist AOORA earlier this year. If anything he’s known for his mashups and he plays to his strengths in a new interaction with British pop artist Ellie Goulding.
Uploaded to his 3.15 million subscribers on YouTube, Baghla chats with Goulding about her new album Higher Than Heaven and performs a short mashup of the lead single “Easy Lover.” The online video interaction starts with Baghla showing Goulding his Hindi rework of the British artist’s most famous song to date, “Love Me Like You Do.” Baghla lends his confident croon to his version of “Easy Lover” as well, interweaving a bit of Goulding’s original English lyrics while borrowing parts from “Humko Humise Chura Lo” [from 2000 Bollywood film Mohabbatein] and Atif Aslam’s “Bheegi Yaadein” that stick to the song’s prominent mood.
Goulding was suitably mesmerized. She immediately asked for a link to one of his videos on Instagram. She then said about the mashup he performed, “I love knowing that I’ve written [and] made a song that reaches out to people like yourself and that you’re doing a version of it in your language. It’s incredible to me and it makes me think that I have achieved something huge.”
Baghla also got chatting with Goulding and shot over a few interview-style questions about Higher Than Heaven. She said about her inspiration for the new album, “I have to keep myself inspired by reading books and listening to mostly classical music actually. You have to keep the passion alive, which sounds easier said than done, because when you have a kid and when your other priorities come into life… sometimes the last thing you want to do is sing and write. So you have to really try hard, but I love the end result.”
Despite the challenges, Goulding says that she’s still got many albums in her and “a lot to accomplish” in the coming times. Baghla asks Goulding to sign off with a message for fans in India. She says in the video, “I love you and miss you and I wish I could be there with you playing shows. I will be back to thank you for listening and I really think you’ll enjoy the next album Higher Than Heaven.”
