Bengaluru rock band serves a moody, pick-me-up debut album

They love the color orange, and Bengaluru jazz/funk/rock band Mad Orange Fireworks display shades of laidback rock with the occasional burst of energy to get heads bobbing and people moving. Formed in 2011 by Michael Dias, the principle songwriter, Lifeline Cast includes songs on Mother Nature [the pop rock “Give It Back”], two left feet [on the hilarious opening funk rock jam “Feet Ain’t Movin’”] and insanity [on the dreamy, star-gazing “On the Ledge”]. Most of Lifeline Cast is mellow, making you float through songs like “Green Fever” and “Break My Fall” but you do notice when “School Boy” sounds too ordinary, save for a fuzzy blues solo that salvages it from mediocrity. The live staple “Confusing State” strikes the best balance of mellow, heavy and catchy, but songs like “Don’t Step on Me” get boring by the time you’re beyond the five-minute mark.Â
Key tracks: “Feet Ain’t Movin’,” “Confusing State”
