Premiere: Aman Sagar and Shivam Sengupta’s ‘Dil Tedha’ Digs Into Modern Romance

Previously roommates at Berklee College of Music, the singer-producers team up for a cheery ode to love

Singer-producers Aman Sagar and Shivam Sengupta’s new collaboration “Dil Tedha” is a love song that brings an internationally familiar pop sound over Hindi lyrics about feeling infatuated. Releasing via IndianMolfa Music on Jun. 14, you can hear the song exclusively ahead of its release.

Complete with breezy, bubbly vocal melodies, buoyant pop rhythms and grooves, “Dil Tedha” first began taking shape during the pandemic. The artists – once roommates while studying at Berklee College of Music, where Sagar took Electronic Production and Design and Sengupta pursued Contemporary Writing and Production – worked on the song remotely from Brooklyn and Nainital, respectively.

Sagar says, “This song has been inspired by the countless instances of infatuation and the great pop tunes that played in my head in all those instances in my life.” He adds, “But what makes the song really special is despite being roommates at Berklee, this is the first song that Shivam and I worked on together, so putting it out after all these years is quite a good nostalgic feeling. Though we both think the other person’s parts in the song are catchier.”

Sengupta says they both brought their “unabashed approach to music production and songwriting” to “Dil Tedha.” He adds, “Aman also writes the catchiest choruses and I tend to write super weird esoteric parts, so the blend of those writing styles really grabs one’s ear and sticks to it.”

The artist goes on to describe their song as “Charlie Puth meets Ali Sethi with a lot (perhaps too much) of Aman Sagar and Shivam Sengupta thrown in there.”

Although clearly a formidable team of collaborators, both Sagar and Sengupta have been carving out their own paths as composers, singer-songwriters and producers in Indian and international music. Sagar produced the song “Sonchadi” for Coke Studio Bharat for singers DigV, Neha Kakkar and Kamala Devi and went to Berklee as the first-ever A.R. Rahman scholarship recipient a few years ago. Sengupta, for his part, worked on the music for Netflix series Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein in 2022 along with fellow Berklee graduate Anuj Danait. It went on to win a Filmfare OTT Award for Best Original Soundtrack that year.

Released via Molfa Music, “Dil Tedha” follows the Indian-pop-focused label’s previous releases such as hip-hop artist Kidshot’s “Mainland,” singer-songwriter Jafa’s “Parchment Skin” and pop artist Gini’s “Ansuna,” among others.
