Amit Trivedi’s ‘Rangeeni’ Kicks Off Colorful Azaad Collab
With Jubin Nautiyal, Hansika Pareek’s voices and Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics, the song sets a high note for Amit Trivedi’s genre-bending new collaborative project
Amit Trivedi brings to the table a new track called “Rangeeni,” promising to splash some colors in the Indian music landscape, prepping his audience for what’s in store for them with his album Azaad Collab, which is slated to release on Nov. 5, 2024.
Trivedi known for his ability to experiment and merge genres, teams up with lyrical genius Amitabh Bhattacharya and vocalists Jubin Nautiyal and Hansika Pareek to deliver a song that’s both a celebration and a call to freedom. With “Rangeeni,” Trivedi gives a teaser of what is to come, an album overflowing with collaborations, creativity and limitless sound.
Nautiyal brings his warm soulful voice to start, singing each word penned by the poetic mind of Bhattacharya, bringing out every emotion from love to excitement and even bittersweet nuances in between. Nautiyal is known for his deep-emotion delivery, and his rendition properly resonates with the lyrics of Bhattacharya, lending vibrant poetry. Pareek comes in with a bright, bubbly vocal style, and that adds such a new and different dimensionality to the song that “Rangeeni” could well be argued to be a mischievous, vivacious duet that invites the listener into its universe.
“Rangeeni” is a harbinger of what fans can expect from the latest musical experiment from Trivedi — Azaad Collab is an album that blends folk melodies with Punjabi beats and upbeat party anthems. But beyond mixing genres, Azaad Collab holds promise of pushing the boundaries of Bollywood music itself. Trivedi’s legacy has always been about breaking conventions with irrepressible hits from Queen, Udta Punjab, and Kedarnath.
As if the emotional quotient hadn’t reached a crescendo already, Ritika Bajaj’s direction for the project, with production by Trivedi, Krutee Trivedi and Rahul Tiwari takes “Rangeeni” to another notch. Bajaj, in her capacity as showrunner for the album, brings cinematic sensibilities to the visuals with each frame feeling like a festival that pulls listeners further into a world that seamlessly weaves music with color and emotion.
With Azaad Collab, Trivedi bats for freedom as well as of collaboration. For example, “Rangeeni” is such a song that makes you feel, celebrative, and free-something to act upon there. There’s a growing restlessness waiting for the release of the album, but fans can bank on Azaad Collab bringing this refreshing soundscape that will disrupt the mainstream and create new spaces for musical storytelling. Well, in Amit Trivedi’s world, there are no boundaries — just colors, emotions, and melodies that will ring long after the music goes away.
