Amplify Music Incubator Opens Applications from Indie Artists for Sixth Edition
As 15 artists from all around the country take part in the fifth edition, the next one will take place between August and September

For an indie artist navigating their craft in 2023, yoga might be just as crucial as receiving training from international industry experts. At least that’s the idea that Amplify Music Incubator‘s (AMI) sixth edition is leading with, by adding not just mentors but also stylists into the mix for India’s indie artists to have a footing in different aspects of music-making.
Initiated by the agency Gatecrash and supported by the likes of Institut Français, Canada’s Music Incubator and digital music company Believe, AMI is in its third year now, with applications open for the sixth edition taking place between August 14th to September 23rd. With the last day for entries set for July 17th, AMI rolls out as a six-week hybrid program with “180 hours professional development.” Five weeks are entirely online, followed by a week-long artist residency in Goa.
With the fifth edition of AMI already under way — artists including Chirag Todi, Utsavi Jha, Frizzell D’Souza, Moli, INGA, Gaya, Sunflower Tape Machine among a total of 15 participants — the sixth edition includes workshops on mental wellbeing, a consultation with stylists and a one-on-one mentorship to figure out aspects such as content and release strategy for their music.
In addition to their support, AMI is also collaborating with non-profit company Music Mulakatein, which will see the launch of a gig series called Music Mulakatein Live across Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Local NGOs will also be involved, in a bid to make live indie music more accessible across communities, with the lineup featuring select artists from all editions of AMI. Previous artists who have been a part of the incubator program include T.ill Apes, Easy Wanderlings, RANJ + Clifr, Bawari Basanti and Shreyas Iyengar, among others.
A note on the application page for AMI states their conditions: “We are looking for artists who are serious about their projects, have a body of work out (multiple singles, an EP or an album, music videos, gigs, tours) and are looking to evolve within their artistic journey and take their career to the next level.”
AMI founder Tanish Thakker says in a statement about building a different program for their upcoming sixth edition, “By listening to artists, we have been able to identify pressure points and add some really vital and cool workshops to the program. Wellbeing is a focus this year with workshops and talks like Grounding in the Creative Space, yoga and meditation (during the residency), Intuitive Art Therapy, Dance Therapy etc.”
