Mumbai-based alt rock/fusion band Anand Bhaskar Collective is all geared to hit the road this weekend as part of their Shukraguzaar Tour. The tour will see them play five gigs across Hyderabad, two shows in Chennai, Bengaluru and Mumbai. Vocalist-guitarist Anand Bhaskar says, “We are working on adding more dates.”
The tour only came into the works after the band were interviewed by Bengaluru-based Divya Vishy on her indie music podcast Discover Desi. Bhaskar says, “It so happens that Divya likes our music and told us what countless people have been telling us, ‘You should tour more often and perform in cities outside Mumbai!’” Bhaskar explained to Vishy that to do that they need to reach out to the right people and venues. It was then that Vishy decided to step in and help organize the Shukraguzaar Tour for the Anand Bhaskar Collective. “With Divya’s help we were able to put together a cost sheet that was favorable to us in the long run and the tour happened. We were surprised by the fact that a lot of the venues wanted us to perform as well,” says Bhaskar.
Ever since the Anand Bhaskar Collective performed at the Hyderabad edition of gig series Weekender Express earlier this year, they’ve been getting a ton of messages to return to the city to play again. So it’s only fitting that their first stop on the tour is the City of Pearls, Bhaskar says, “People that have seen us at some or the other festival have wanted us to play their city.”
The band’s set list will include material off their albums Samsara (2012) and 2017’s Excuse Me as well as unreleased material. “We’re looking forward to making new fans and giving old fans a taste of some songs that we’ve not played live before,” says Bhaskar.
