A well-established and well-traveled fashion photographer, New Delhi-bred, Goa-based electronic artist Anushka Menon (who goes by her first name) stepped into the world of electronic music with Smita Singh as DJ-producer duo Anushka + Agent and went on to release her first solo single “Falling” in 2019.

With her latest song “Take,” Anushka goes a step further to establish her aesthetic, complete with a video featuring neon colors, interpretive dance and appearances by fellow DJ-producer Zokhuma aka Arman Menzies, hair and make up artist Marianna Mukuchyan and stylist Aesha Merchant.

The song, which is co-produced by producer-saxophonist Sid Vashi, was released last month as part of the Red Bull Premieres series and now has a music video directed by filmmaker-photographer Ishaan Nair and cinematography by Sachin Pillai. The artist says in a note, “‘Take’ metaphorically iterates a message about the constant battle of being judged by others, be it strangers, media or internet trolls and how her response to this is simply to react with love kindness and confidence.”

Although photography continues in full swing, Anushka finds firm footing with “Take,” which veers in and out of drum and bass production but also highlights the artist’s mystique-heavy vocal melodies. In the video, Anushka teams up with dancers and models to offer a glimpse of her world — dark yet alluring.

A regular on the DJ circuit for years, she’s performed alongside the likes of experimental/electronic artist Arca, plus a set at Burning Man Festival. Closer home, Anushka has been on the billing at music festivals such as Vh1 Supersonic, Terminal 1, Bass Camp Festival and more.
