Amongst India’s latest rising crop of singer-songwriters, Anuv Jain has racked up millions of streams for his blend of laidback and emotive tunes in Hindi and English. The Ludhiana-based artist, best known for songs like “Baarishein,” “Ocean” and “Riha” over the last two years, has released his fifth single “Alag Aasmaan” with a lyric video.

The song details a nurturing yet bittersweet parting between people in long-distance relationships. According to Jain, “The goodbyes can get pretty difficult.” He adds in a statement, “There’s so much uncertainty and you do not know when you’ll meet again. ‘Alag Aasmaan’ is very relevant in the current times as a lot of people around the world cannot see their loved ones. Even after being stuck under different skies, the spirit of hope and strength is high.”

In his way of classifying songs, Jain calls “Alag Aasmaan” as “a song on the ukulele” in the title of his video, similar to “Ocean.” The simplicity of the sonics and warm production heightens Jain’s charming vocals, including when he switches into a falsetto.

Although a tad melancholic, Jain says he’s tried to make the song “hopeful” in its tone. He adds, “It has themes of a young, foolish love and talks about how no relationship is insignificant. How people in long-distance relationships spend little time together but still make the most of it and fill this with innumerable memories.”
