AP Dhillon Announces Ayra Starr Collab ‘Bora Bora’ From ‘The Brownprint’ EP

Punjabi star crosses over into Afrobeats territory for his upcoming song

Canadian-Punjabi artist AP Dhillon has worked with Afrobeats artist Ayra Starr on the upcoming song “Bora Bora” for his new EP The Brownprint.

Originally thought to be an album, The Brownprint is now an EP releasing via Republic Records on Aug. 30, 2024.

The singer-songwriter and record producer took to his social media to share an illustrative artwork that features Spotify’s most streamed singer-songwriter from Nigeria, Ayra Starr.

A press release adds, “Titled ‘Bora Bora’, Dhillon has successfully tapped into one of Africa’s most aspirational pop sensations to create a powerful and infectious anthem. The track is poised to be an engaging fusion of Punjabi and Afrobeats, two genres that have been gaining significant momentum in recent years.”

Dhillon calls his upcoming project a “new chapter for me. A new era for all of us” with Starr chiming in the comments for “Bora Bora.” She added, “It’s timeee.” The song follows the first drop from The Brownprint, “Old Money” which came with an action-packed video starring Bollywood veterans Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt.

Dhillon said in a prior statement about the release, “‘Old Money’ is the perfect way for me to start my next era. I came up with a concept that was influenced by all my favorite action movies that I grew up watching. Shoutout to bhai and baba for believing in the boy!  I hope you love it as much as I do.”

The Brownprint follows up Dhillon’s last EP Two Hearts Never Break The Same in 2022 as well as the hit single “With You” last year. The project marks the first instance of an India-born artist of Punjabi lineage to sign with Republic Records. The artist said in a press release statement, “Republic Records got and understood who I am from day one. We’re all in harmony when it comes to this new music, and now I just can’t wait to show everybody what we’ve been cooking up.”

Starr, for her part, released her new album The Year I Turned 21 (also released via Republic Records) in May this year and followed it up with supporting the likes of Chris Brown on tour, plus a performance at the Pyramid Stage at U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival in June. The Grammy-nominated artist has had a few hits to her name from her recent record, including songs like “Commas” and “Bad Vibes.”
