The Punjabi-Canadian “Brown Munde” hitmaker will perform in six cities starting November 24th
In December 2019, BookMyShow went beyond its standing as a ticketing platform by hosting rock legends U2 for a spellbinding stadium show in Navi Mumbai. The Joshua Tree concert also put BookMyShow Live in the spotlight, their (then) newly launched foray into putting together concerts and tours.
Although the pandemic did see the focus shift towards virtual concerts, stand-up comedy gigs and more, BookMyShow Live will now regain credence with a new “live entertainment IP” called Over The Top. They’ve picked Punjabi singer-composer AP Dhillon to lead their first outing, as part of the six-city ‘Takeover Tour’ starting on November 24th in Gurugram.
Dhillon – best known for affable, laidback hits like “Brown Munde,” “Excuses,” “Toxic” and “Insane” – will also perform in Hyderabad (November 26th), Goa (November 28th), Chandigarh (December 4th), Mumbai (December 12th) and New Delhi (December 18th). He said in his statement about returning to India to tour, “Indian fans across the country and the world over have been my loudest supporters and have helped our music find its rightful place on a global stage. It is now time for the fans to finally experience the music live and I can’t wait to get there.”
Dhillon will be joined on The Takeover Tour by frequent collaborators serving as supporting artists like singer-lyricist Shinda Kahlon, rapper G MINXR and singer-rapper Gurinder Gill. Interestingly, while the tour is presented by tech brand boAt, the first three shows of Dhillon’s tour are also being promoted as part of Zee Live’s IP Supermoon, which has previously set up tours with singer-songwriter Prateek Kuhad and most recently, Sri Lankan artist Yohani.
Although no specific details have been provided, Over The Top claims to create a “brand new nightlife experience.” BookMyShow’s COO of live entertainment and venues Anil Makhija says in his statement, “In recent years, Dhillon’s music has shaped the global music industry influencing fans across the world and especially in India. As the country shifts gears towards recovery and revival, we are delighted to curate entertainment experiences that will bring fans closer to their favorite international and Indian artists through such live entertainment offerings. Keeping safety at the heart of the live entertainment experience, all government-mandated protocols will be strictly followed throughout the tour. We eagerly look forward to welcoming Indian audiences back to their favorite music gigs featuring artists they love.”
