Watch Aphex Twin’s First Music Video in 17 Years

12-year-old directed video for electronic musician's upcoming ‘Cheetah’ EP

Richard D. James, the man behind Aphex Twin, shared a new visual on Tuesday for “CIRKLON3 [ Колхозная mix ].” Two things mark this as unusual. It’s not only the first Aphex Twin video in 17 years, but according to the clip’s caption on YouTube, it’s directed by a 12-year-old named Ryan Wyer.

The video captures a group of youngsters dancing aimlessly while wearing various forms of Aphex Twin face masks and t-shirts. The casual activity continues unabated for more than seven minutes, and the end credits promise that there’s more where this came from: “To Be Continued.”

When Syro appeared in 2014, it was the first new LP credited to Aphex Twin in 13 years. “I just like making the stuff,” James told Rolling Stone at the time. “To be honest, I thought, ‘Who’s even interested anymore?’ When Warp was really interested, I was like, ‘Really? Is this a joke or something?’ I kind of expected them to say, ‘No, nobody actually buys any records anymore, mate. Sorry.'”

Aphex Twin followed Syro with the Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments pt2 EP in 2015. “CIRKLON3 [ Колхозная mix ]” appears on Cheetah, a new EP to be released on July 8th.
