Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne Split After 22 Years of Marriage

In 2022, Chassagne publicly supported Butler through five allegations of emotional abuse, sexual misconduct, and manipulation

While Arcade Fire will remain in tact, Win Butler and Régine Chassagne’s marriage will not, the band members revealed in a social media statement on Thursday, Oct. 30. “After a long and loving marriage, Win & Régine have decided to separate,” the joint statement read. “They continue to love, admire and support each other as they co-parent their son.”

Butler and Chassagne married in 2003 and welcomed their first child in April 2013. In 2022, Butler admitted to having extramarital relationships following a string of misconduct allegations pertaining to emotional abuse, sexual misconduct, and manipulation from five people, though Butler denied that any of those relations were nonconsensual. At the time, Chassagne publicly stood beside Butler.

“Win is my soulmate, my songwriting partner, my husband, the father of my beautiful boy. He has been my partner in life and in music for 20 years,” Chassagne said in 2022. “And for all of the love in our lives, I have also watched him suffer through immense pain… I know what is in his heart, and I know he has never, and would never, touch a woman without her consent and I am certain he never did. He has lost his way and he has found his way back. I love him and love the life we have created together.”

In his own statement regarding the matter, Butler said, “Régine waited patiently watching me suffer and tried to help me as best as she could. I know it must have been so hard for her to watch the person she loved so lost.”

Arcade Fire released their sixth studio album We in May 2022 and followed the record with Pink Elephant in May 2025. In the statement posted to Instagram announcing Butler and Chassagne’s separation, the band said, “Their bond as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade Fire. The band send their love and look forward to seeing you all on tour soon.”

The band does not currently have any slated concert appearances. Butler and Chassagne perform alongside Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury, and Jeremy Gara.
