Archiesman Kundu is the JioSaavn Spotted East Round Winner

Kolkata’s multilingual rapper turned up with a banger of a tune called ‘ Babuana Chal’ for the talent hunt

The latest winner of talent search JioSaavn Spotted is Kolkata rapper Archiesman Kundu, thanks to his resolute Bengali hip-hop song “Babuana Chal” – produced by his go-to beatsmith Rawhit aka Rohit Dey – getting the most streams among East round finalists.

Standing at over 43,000 streams in the playlist, Kundu joins the JioSaavn Spotted Hindi winner, singer-songwriter Aman Sagar, as the first wave of top music talent identified with help from judges such as singer-composer Salim Merchant, hip-hop star DIVINE, singer-composer Jonita Gandhi, and vocalist and composer Papon. Kundu says about submitting his unreleased music for JioSaavn Spotted, “[It] felt like the best platform for us to reach out to our audience in the most effective manner. It was an opportunity that we could not let go of. As artists we definitely want to be present at a platform of this scale that will enable us not only to reach out to our existing audience, but also to other demographics.”

“Babuana Chal” is a slick offering that stays true to his hip-hop style – sometimes gritty and always club-friendly. The track is part of a larger body of work that he and Rawhit have been working on for a couple of years now. The rapper says he heard about JioSaavn Spotted in the midst of online studio sessions and felt like he had a song that was apt for the platform. “We studied the music market and created songs as per the taste of the masses. We combined popular demand with our spice and created the type of music that had an impact on the Bangla hip-hop community,” he adds.

Lyrically, Kundu describes the track as representative of “the artist’s real lifestyle.” He adds, “As our music is inspired by a lot of desi and international hip-hop music, we wanted to add our unique flavor of swag to this song. Our aim was to give Bengal a taste of an urban vibe through his track. It also represents Bengali hip-hop culture, based on love and lifestyle.”

With the JioSaavn Spotted win being a boost for morale and material, Kundu says Rawhit and he have “a lot of songs” coming up. There’s an EP in the pipeline and tunes that the rapper terms “experimental,” all releasing in the coming months.
