Ariana Grande Reveals Covid Diagnosis, Days After Cynthia Erivo Was ‘Unwell’ at ‘Wicked’ Premiere

Wicked: For Good is set to hit theaters tonight, following a weekslong press and premiere run across the globe

As the premiere and press run for Wicked: For Good wraps this week, Ariana Grande revealed she tested positive for Covid-19, just days after Cynthia Erivo was reportedly feeling “unwell” ahead of the film’s NYC premiere. On Thursday, the singer reposted a photo to her Instagram Stories — of herself twirling a baton on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — with the caption, “Moments before Covid.”

Grande’s brief mention of the diagnosis was followed by a countdown to the release of the second Wicked film, out Friday. The musician has not shared further information about her well-being.

The Covid diagnosis came after she skipped interviews at the New York premiere of Wicked: For Good in solidarity with Cynthia Erivo, who lost her voice and was “not feeling well” during it. According to Variety, Grande also pulled out of appearances with Erivo on The Kelly Clarkson Show and Q&A discussions for the film, which were scheduled over the next week.

The Wicked: For Good press run has had several mishaps over the last few weeks: Grande was unable to make it to the first premiere in Brazil due to “safety issues” and flight delays. “My team and Universal have tried every single thing possible to fix this, we’ve searched every other flight… and absolutely nothing was available or possible that would get us there in time,” Grande said at the time.

And during the Singapore premiere, Grande was rushed by a man, who was later arrested and charged with being a public nuisance. According to The Straits Times, Johnson Wen, a 26-year-old Australian, lunged at Grande during the premiere. Wen was captured on video jumping the security barricades while Grande and her costars were walking the carpet. He appeared to aggressively grab Grande and pull her into an embrace. Cynthia Erivo shoved Wen away from Grande in a viral video.
