The actors were previously paired up as Lata and Kabir in the Mira Nair-directed series adaptation of writer Vikram Seth's novel 'A Suitable Boy'
While A Suitable Boy was a period drama based on writer Vikram Seth’s book, actors Tanya Maniktala and Danesh Razvi – who played protagonist Lata Mehra and one of her suitors Kabir Durrani, respectively – take on whole new roles as fullhearted hopefuls in the video for singer Arijit Singh’s new track “Dil Haareya.”
The song is composed by Vivian Richard with lyricist JUNO, plus additional lyrics by Singh’s go-to writer Amitabh Bhattacharya and the opening voice-over delivered by artist-poet Zeeshan Khan.
Maniktala says over a call about teaming up on-screen with Razvi again after A Suitable Boy, “Because the two characters were not fated to be together in that story, I think, in this video, our director [Asthasoom Sharma] rooted for us to come together.” She does underline that this is a different storyline and setting – in “Dil Haareya,” Razvi plays a photographer who finds a new muse in Maniktala and their bond slowly grows. “At the core of this tale is also romance and love. So I think the emotion stays the same but obviously how we played it was a little different. The message was simply that love has its own logic,” Maniktala says. Razvi adds, “Also as people and co-stars, our comfort level with each other is the same.”
Both artists loved the song as soon as they’d heard it, keen to be on board for the music video, which was a first for Maniktala. “I always wanted to be part of a beautifully shot, romantic song,” she adds. The actor was also seen in the music video for “Saanware Aijaiyo,” for artists Kanishk Seth and Kavita Seth.
The video is shot in Georgia, among the lesser-known and newer locations for Indian filmmakers to visit and train their lens on the European aesthetic. Maniktala says it was a “bit hot” but they had a blast. “After the day would end, we would go hunting for places to eat and just enjoy the sights, sounds and flavors that this gorgeous place is overflowing with,” she adds. Razvi points to how they had a local crew to work with, who also gave them tips on where to visit. “It was really nice to see Georgia through the eyes of the people who live here,” he adds.
While this music video project remains their current focus in terms of promotion, Maniktala – who was lead in the Amazon Prime Video series P.I. Meena – is currently shooting for a show. Razvi – whose 2023 appearances included films such as Blind and Neeyat – is equally keen on seeing how “Dil Haareya” is received. “We just hope it receives a lot of love because it really deserves it,” he adds.
