The video, shot between India and Canada and directed by Kanungo, sees both artists pitch woo
Pop artist and entrepreneur Arjun Kanungo lends his distinctively raspy croon on the Punjabi song “Inni Soni” with Barmer-origin, Canada-based singer-songwriter and composer Prince Sharma.
Released via T-Series, the late-night R&B-meets-pop song about unconditional love is also co-produced by Rahul Sathu and Qasim Azhar. In the video – also directed by Kanungo and co-directed by Nitin Krishnamurthy and Rupan Bal (in Canada) – intersperses the love stories of characters portrayed by Sharma and Kanungo. While Sharma takes his partner on a drive, Kanungo gets cozy with his on-screen partner, portrayed by actor Shihij Kaw.
A press release says, “‘Inni Soni’ beautifully tells the story of a guy who is hopelessly in love with a girl, cherishing every aspect of her—from her attire and actions to her unique quirks.”
Kanungo told Rolling Stone India about the making of the song, “When I first heard the demo, I was unsure about being on the track. But Prince asked me to try it out, and we realized it could be something special.”
“Inni Soni” comes on the back of Sharma releasing songs like “Yaadein” (also with producer Sathu in 2022) and “Addiction” earlier this year. Kanungo says, “Supporting new talent like Prince, who has a good sense of melody and composition, is always fun and rewarding. I took the track to T-Series, with whom I have a fantastic relationship, and I’m grateful that they also saw its potential.”
For Kanungo, “Inni Soni” follows his 2024 singles including the J-pop collab with Japanese artist Ren on “Tell Me,” “Sajna” with Mumbai producer Bhu, “Mahi Ve” with hisOne Mind Music roster artist Shivvyy and “Suno Na” with Sri Lankan artist Chamath Sangeeth.
With “Inni Soni,” however, Kanungo got behind the camera as well. “I directed the music video with my friend Nitin Krishnamurthy. We wanted a fresh face for the video, someone you’d want to sing ‘Tu Inni Soni eh’ to, and Shihij, a common friend, fit perfectly. I’m proud of our team’s work on the video. If the audience connects with it even half as much as we have, it’s going to smash it!”
