Hear Armaan Malik Talk Bullying, Bollywood and Indie Music In New Audio Series

Indian pop artist, composer and Bollywood singer Armaan Malik is among the latest to join the slate of musicians on audio platform Mindset, detailing personal stories and learnings across 11 voice-only episodes available to stream via the app.

The “Control” and “next 2 me” hitmaker is also known for his work on Bollywood and other film music industry soundtracks, including “Jab Tak” (from sports biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story) and “Pehla Pyaar” (from Kabir Singh). On his Mindset Collection, Malik talks about his fans, finding his voice, overcoming lows and more. He said in a statement, “I’ve never been this open or vulnerable in my life, but I’m excited for everyone to hear about my life and how I got to where I am today. I really hope that through my Mindset listeners will get the courage and motivation to find their passion and chase their dreams.”

Although not exactly new revelations from the star—from being replaced in Bollywood projects to conversations with his father, seasoned composer Daboo Malik about singing in Hindi—the intent to speak about things from a perspective of lessons makes Malik’s audio episodes insightful. He says in one episode, “One of my lowest moments in my career, I think, was when I got replaced in quite a few songs in Bollywood films […] It doesn’t feel good at all because you’re of a certain caliber because you’ve achieved certain things in your career. And then obviously, when people call you, they know the kind of stuff you can deliver. But even when you deliver your 100 percent, there are certain things that are beyond your control. And you can’t really pinpoint you know why it got replaced or whatever it was. But it just happened back to back. Like, so many songs of mine just got replaced and at this one point, I was like, when I went into a studio, I’d straight up ask the main guy there, ‘Is this going to be replaced? Because I’d rather not sing.’”

In a new clip from the audio collection that you can hear below, Malik talks about returning from Berklee College of Music after a diploma course and being advised by Malik senior about the path to becoming successful as an artist in India.

Mindset was launched earlier in 2021 by DIVE Studios in Los Angeles, founded by brothers Eric Nam, Eddie Nam and Brian Nam.
