It was in March last year that R&B singer Arunaja released her debut single “Broken,” backed by her band which led to shows across the country, including the Bacardi NH7 Weekender in 2019. More than a year later, her second song “Cyanide” showcases a turn towards to slick electro-pop.

Arunaja, who shot to fame following a spot amongst finalists in singing reality show The Stage in 2016, teams up with Stockholm-based beatsmith BlueNucleus aka Sourabh Pateriya for “Cyanide.” She says in a statement, ‘The last three years have been a dream come true for me and I am super excited for what’s in store ahead. Cyanide is a song close to my heart as it’s about the will of human spirit to transcend toxic environments that often put you down. It’s my story in many ways and I wish to empower others with this track.”

The song — which shines a light on a psychological sort of cyanide and fighting it with courage — sees BlueNucleus amp up dancefloor-friendly EDM patterns for Arunaja to go from mellow and forlorn to chills-inducing vocal highs, elevated by the beat breaks. The duo had previously worked together on a creative rework of “Zara Zara,” the love song composed by Harris Jayaraj for 2001 Bollywood film Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein.
