Throughout the legendary jazz age from 1920-1950, The St.Regis New York played host to some of the finest jazz musicians and connoisseurs in history. That’s part of why a new gig series has kicked off in Mumbai.

Jazz Legends, a monthly series of shows that will formally kick off in January at The St.Regis Mumbai, was launched with a celebratory performance by veteran jazz-man Ash Chandler and his band, The Redux at the infusion-themed bar Luna Nudo on November 23rd.

Vocalist Ash Chandler, the voice that has led multiple jazz bands for the last 27 years, says of the show, “Jazz Legends is a very serious platform and is giving us a chance to perform and showcase our skills.”

Chandler and the band performed seriously groovy jazz versions of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama,” The Doors’ “Roadhouse Blues” and a salsa version of Sting’s “Englishman in New York.”

Completely rearranged and laying over classic genres like cha-cha-cha, Latin and swing, the band’s setlist comprised evergreens and the latest chart-toppers like “Rude” by MAGIC! Says Chandler, “Redux means revival. Jazz is the ability to improvise on a style. You’re going to re-discover every song you’ve heard but with new life.”

While the band belted out some of the greatest jazz standards, everyone from singer-actors Farhan Akhtar, Sonakshi Sinha and other A-listers were in attendance. Anuraag Bhatnagar, General Manager, The St. Regis Mumbai says, “Jazz is one of the intrinsic rituals of The St.Regis hotels across the globe. It will be our pleasure hosting jazz enthusiasts in the city with quality jazz performances.”

The St.Regis Mumbai will continue to host renowned jazz musicians with ”˜Jazz Legends’ in the months to come.
