Guwahati-based singer-songwriter duo O Daapun – comprising musicians and brothers Siddhartha and Bhargav Hazarika – kick-started their project last year and have already released five singles, four of which are in Assamese. Now, the pair is out with their second English offering with the pop-rock track “Dont You Drop.”

Inspired by John Mayer’s “Waiting on the World to Change,” Bhargav tells us that he was keen on coming up with a piece in that vein. He says, “The composition felt romantic and as I sat down to write the lyrics, a classic old school rom-com story was going through my mind, where the boy is trying to impress this girl whom he really likes and would do anything to preserve those feelings that he has for her.” Once Bhargav shared the song with his brother, they took it a notch higher with horn and organ parts.

O Daapun recorded the track at their home studio and shared production duties while Bhargav mixed and mastered it. “Dont You Drop” opens with an easy-going guitar part before the horns kick in and a subtle groove holds the rhythm as dynamics, staccato moments and silky melodies flow through. On what’s next, Siddhartha says, “Currently, we are working on an album in which we have been trying to experiment with various genres. We are planning to release this album in four parts, the first of which, will come out by the end of November this year.”
