Aswekeepsearching and The Tramlines Project Kick Off Chasing Light Tour This Week
The post-rock bands will perform in five cities from May 6th to 14th, followed by AWKS’ solo run of shows through the North East
After multiple setbacks and rounds of recalculation, Bengaluru-based post-rock band The Tramlines Project are finally off for a five-city tour that kicks off in Hyderabad today.
Organized by Bengaluru artist startup Only Indie, The Tramlines Project join rock favorites aswekeepsearching for the first leg of the latter’s Chasing Light tour, which will visit five cities – Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune and New Delhi – between May 6th and May 14th.
Aswekeepsearching’s frontman Uddipan Sarmah said in a statement, “We have been waiting for a long time to get on stage and feel that vibe and energy again. And we are glad to be doing this tour with Only Indie. The stage is our second home and we are glad to be performing live again.”
The Tramlines Project – who have been around since 2016 and released singles such as “Painting Time” and “Deep Trip” in 2021 and 2020, respectively – are helmed by Rahul Seth. It’s been something he’s been trying to pull off since 2021, only to be challenged by the worsening Covid-19 outbreaks. Cancellations came as early as April 2021, followed by another setback to plans in March this year due to the next wave. “It’s been very difficult, we’ve seen major losses but we planned it again and went ahead to execute it this time,” he says.
There’s specific appreciation that Seth has for all the venue managers who have been accommodating and patient, as have their tour partners aswekeepsearching. “They’ve [venues] really cooperated and put this show together. Aswekeepsearching have been cooperative and understanding as well,” Seth adds.
The Tramlines Project’s own inception was inspired by the rise of aswekeepsearching. Seth says that he saw the band and Irish post-rock pioneers God Is An Astronaut at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in 2018. “We were hellbent on working with aswekeepsearching since 2019,” he adds. For their set-list, The Tramlines Project will perform “Deep Trip” and “Painting Time,” along with unreleased tracks from their upcoming EP Parallel and a surprise God Is An Astronaut cover.
Seth is also part of Only Indie, which he says aims to “organize the scattered indie scene.” He adds, “It’s an end-to-end music startup – there’s a live IP and there’ll be an on-demand streaming platform as well soon. We’re making a concept where a bigger band helps a smaller band, like what’s happening with this tour.”
