Australian musician plans to play tribute concerts for 'Rock Street Journal' founder Amit Saigal on her five-city tour with the Canadian band in November
Aurora Jane
Since her first show in India in 2004, Australian musician Aurora Jane has found a reason to return to the country almost every year without fail. “It’s hard to believe, but it will be my seventh tour of India! I am super excited to connect with Indian music fans once again and also to pay tribute and make peace with the passing of my close friend, the late, great Amit Saigal,” she says.
Her upcoming tour called The Fully Fantastic Amit Saigal Tribute Tour will see her perform in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Gurgaon with Canadian alt pop trio, Picture the Ocean, with whom she’s currently touring UK and Europe. “We expect to add a few more cities. I’ll be traveling with a superb act from Canada and all the shows are collaborative. I play bass for Picture the Ocean (PTO), and they play as my backing band. I’m really excited to introduce their music to India”¦ they are inspiringly emotive songwriters and a hard-working touring act,” Jane says. On tour, she will be promoting PTO’s eponymous album.
A month ago, we heard that Jane was working on her next album titled Bittersweet that was a culinary and musical journey covering Cuba , Mexico and India. The process included working out a way to address her love for Paper Dosa and Indian music. “My creativity is a little like a runaway train at times. I had originally intended to make an album [Bittersweet] about the relationship between food and music, with an iPhone app,” she says. Finding the original idea for Bittersweet too limiting, she is now working on another concept project titled Mojo Junction that she plans to launch before her new album is out in 2013. “A website and online resource, Mojo Junction will be a creative lifestyle resource ”” a point where the international creative community intersects and can explore new music, culture, politics and art. I have been dreaming this up for years, and it is finally coming to fruition. My art and touring experiences have transcended simply making records for a long time,” she says.
Jane plans to work on her upcoming album on tour in India, and is hoping to collaborate with local artists too. “I met some great young horn players in Cuba who have laid down parts on a psychotic-speedy-fusiony instrumental called ”˜Too Much of a Good Thing is Never Enough’, and I might test it out on a few Indian musicians as well,” she says.
Fans can look forward to hearing some of Jane’s new material on her India tour. “I’ll debut some tracks from my new album that we are working on while on the road. We are so, so close to playing them live. Europe may miss out, but I think they will be ready for India. Also we’ll be playing some old faves, but with a new vibe,” she says, adding that the tracks will be longer and “trippier.”
