When Australian producer and DJ Bill James Day aka Mr. Bill was in India in 2017, he was still sitting on some unreleased material that he tested out at Chennai’s annual IndiEarth Xchange conference and festival. Two years later, not only does the multi-genre electronic music producer have a new EP called Wub but is also returning to India for a set in New Delhi on November 9th.
Booked by New Delhi art and technology community Warpcore with event and artist agency BlueTree – one of the first electronic artists to be hosted amongst a past of prog and rock bands – Mr. Bill will perform at the capital’s newest venue, Dontelmama. Supporting artists include New Delhi drummer-producer Rijul Victor aka Corridors, producer Siddhant Jain aka ELM and deep/tech-house producer Dushyant Goel aka Murklin.
Day tells Rolling Stone India in a statement, “I haven’t been back in India to play a show in a while, so I’m excited to share these new tunes I’ve been working on with all of you. They’re getting a bit heavier these days, so be prepared to dance it out in Delhi with me.”
BlueTree’s Karan Mehta tells us that they moved on booking Mr. Bill because he had other tour dates set in Asia (as part of his F**k U I Mek Bengher tour) that made it feasible. Mehta adds, “We want to work with different genres moving forward, hopefully this is just the beginning. Mr. Bill is a really talented artist and loves to experiment with his sound and I personally have been following him for years now ever since I saw him at Blue Frog back in the day.” Although a Bengaluru show was also in the works, Mehta noted that recent issues with the live music licenses for venues has caused BlueTree and Warpcore to play it safe.
Mr. Bill, Corridors, ELM and Murklin perform at Dontelmama, New Delhi on November 9th. Entry: Rs 300 onwards. Get tickets here. Listen to his latest EP ‘Wub’ below.
