Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Akh Da Taara’ Dives Into Synth-Pop
The actor-singer’s first release via Warner Music India comes with a multiverse-theme Sci-Fi fantasy music video
Days after actor and singer Ayushmann Khurrana signed a record deal with Warner Music India, he’s dropped his new song “Akh Da Taara,” a groovy Punjabi synth-pop heartbreak tune that comes with a fantastical music video.
His first release via Warner Music India, “Akh Da Taara” has all the makings of an earworm, complete with pop production and melodies that are influenced by The Weeknd. The song is composed by Gourov Dasgupta, with producer Sharan Rawat and lyrics by Kunwar Juneja.
The video is directed and edited by filmmaker Arsh Grewal, who also infuses the mind-expanding VFX that ranges from cars on Saturn’s rings to Khurrana confronting several versions of himself, in a nod to multiverse theories when it comes to decisions and endings in relationships.
According to a press release, Khurrana “embarks on a journey, capturing the five stages of grief following a breakup— denial, anger, gloom, bargaining and acceptance” in “Akh Da Taara.” At the end of it all, Khurrana moves towards acceptance of his fate in matters of the heart.
Khurrana, who has been best known for songs like “Pani Da Rang” says in a statement, “I feel I have reinvented myself in my music journey with ‘Akh Da Taara.’ This track is unlike anything I’ve sung before, blending heartbreak with pop music in a way that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable. It’s an international sound filled with intense beats and soul-stirring verses, marking our leap onto the global stage.”
“Akh Da Taara” follows Khurrana’s previous singles such as “Raatan Kaaliyan” with singers like Rochak Kohli in 2023 and a reprise version of “Nindiya,” released to promote Netflix series The Railway Men. Khurrana adds that this new song is the first of many, “We are planning to release more songs that will explore a variety of sounds, and I will definitely be involved in composing and writing some of them.”
In an earlier statement, Khurrana said that signing with Warner Music India was about wanting to collaborate with “like-minded people in my pursuit of creative excellence.” He added, “I want to take my music to a global audience and I’m confident that with Warner Music India by my side, I will make some significant strides in this realm. I cannot wait to unveil my next song to people. It will be a new sound that people haven’t heard from me before which is extremely exciting personally for me.”
