Azadi Records, Disco Puppet Pull Out of Bacardi NH7 Weekender, Pune

The indie label and electronic producer withdraw their festival slots after allegations made against organizers Only Much Louder

In light of allegations of sexual misconduct against Bacardi NH7 Weekender organizers Only Much Louder (OML), many festival attendees began selling their tickets, but now artists booked to perform are also taking a stand.

New Delhi independent label Azadi Records’ hip-hop showcase and Bengaluru drummer Shoumik Biswas’ electronic avatar Disco Puppet, who where scheduled to perform at Weekender Pune between December 7th and 9th, announced their withdrawal from the festival.

Their announcement arrives after an investigative story by The Caravan was published earlier this month, detailing several instances of abuse of power and mistreatment, creating an unsafe working environment for women in OML.

Both acts announced their cancelations on their respective Facebook pages with Azadi Records stating, “As a label, we recognize the importance of speaking up against the prevalent culture of sexual harassment and assault in the music industry and society at large. Sexual harassment and assault have no place in our society, and we will continue to speak up in support of the women and men who help highlight these issues.”

In Biswas’ post, he said, “I have thought about this a lot, and I believe that I must stand with the people who have made the accusations.”
