Badshah and J Balvin Drop Chilling Collaboration ‘Voodoo’

In 2019, the pop/hip-hop star had previously remixed the Balvin-led Major Lazer song “Que Calor”

If the ever-expanding world of global pop needed any more fuel, it arrives with Badshah and J Balvin’s single “Voodoo.”

Released via Universal Music Group on April 22nd, the track brings together one of India’s most heard (and watched) singer-producers and the Latin music world’s Colombian heavy hitter. They’re joined by Balvin’s go-to producer Tainy, who crafts a buoyant yet chilling beat.

Badshah hails J Balvin as an “idol” in his press statement. The Indian artist adds, “He’s been doing what I have been trying to do in my own space, and the way he’s made a way for himself despite the language, despite the odds, really inspired me.” J Balvin added in his statement, “Badshah and Tainy are tremendous artists, and this collaboration is just another example of how we’re able to unite people of different cultures to find common ground and vibe together.”

The release arrives on the back of a global deal that Badshah signed with Universal in July last year, the multi-year agreement leading to his move out of Sony Music India. At the time of announcing the global agreement, Universal mentioned that “the next phase in Badshah’s musical journey will see him collaborating with some of the world’s most influential and popular artists from around the world.”

While Badshah has often made his mark globally as well as in India, Balvin is best known for chart-topping hits such as “Mi Gente” and “I Like It,” with Cardi B and Bad Bunny. Within the last year alone, Badshah broke into Billboard’s global charts with songs like “Paani Paani” with singer Aastha Gill and “Bachpan Ka Pyaar” – a remake of child artist Sahdev Dirdo’s viral tune that also brought in Gill and Punjabi singer Rico.

Balvin, for his part, recently notched up a surprise collaboration with singer-songwriter/pop artist Ed Sheeran, releasing the songs “Sigue” and “Forever My Love” in March. As it turns out, it’s not the first time the duo have shared credits on a song. EDM act Major Lazer’s song “Que Calor” featuring Balvin was remixed by Badshah in 2019, following its release on the former’s album Music Is the Weapon
