The pop and hip-hop song’s producer Hiten adapts the hook from the 1991 Bollywood movie ‘Lamhe’ song ‘Morni Baga Ma Bole’
It’s guns, gangs and badlands in Badshah, Sharvi Yadav and Hiten’s new song “Morni.”
Released via Saregama, the song samples the 1991 Rajasthani folk-inspired song “Morni Baga Ma Bole” from Bollywood movie Lamhe, composed by Shiv-Hari, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi and sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Ila Arun.
In the video for Badshah’s “Morni,” the hip-hop/pop star seeks a new contender to match his level, even as he flexes his rise to superstardom so far. Sharvi, who collaborated with Badshah on the latter’s album Ek Tha Raja on the song “Daaku” (also produced by Hiten) earlier this year, has been among the hitmaker’s collaborators since the song “Let It Flow” in 2023, with Yadav also joining Badshah on stage as singer during his Paagal India Tour.
Yadav says about her latest collaboration, “Working and singing with Badshah has been one of my best musical experiences. He’s helped me tap into a genre that I never thought I could do – folk and hip-hop!”
She adds about the song in a statement, “Some melodies are universal and last forever! ‘Morni’ is one of those melodies and I hope our rendition gets the same love as the original. I feel that this song will resonate with listeners of all ages.”
The artist first gained fame for winning the English-language singer hunt The Stage, in 2016. She went on to sing with composers like Amit Trivedi (“Do You Wanna Boom Boom” from the 2022 film Thai Massage) and more.
