Bae Suzy has been offered the lead role in the upcoming K-drama Men of the Harem. Her agency, Management Soop, has confirmed the news, though the actor is yet to decide and is currently still reviewing the offer.
Men of the Harem is a period fantasy romance drama adapted from Alphatart, HereLee, and Yeongbin’s wildly popular webtoon of the same name. The source material follows an empress driven by ambition and wounded by betrayal. She sets out to reclaim her throne and challenge the status quo by taking a radical step—assembling a harem of male consorts over one man to cement her authority.
Suzy has been approached to play Empress Latil in the drama. Latil’s world turns upside down when the throne of Tarium becomes hers, but at the cost of her father’s mysterious death. Already heartbroken by the loss and a failed relationship, she must now marry to secure her throne. Trapped, she turns to drastic measures, forming a harem of five men. This ultimately lands her in hot water, as she becomes entangled in new affections and the complexities of her role. To make matters even worse, strange and paranormal activities begin to plague her kingdom, while she discovers she has unusual powers of her own. With secrets lurking around every corner, Latil finds herself at the crossroads of power, politics, and romance, all while unraveling the truth behind her father’s tragic fate.
The series will be directed by Lee Eung-bok, well-known for his work on hit dramas like School 2013 (2012) and Secret Love (2013), as well as critically acclaimed classics such as Descendants of the Sun (2016), Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016-17), and Mr. Sunshine (2018). His illustrious filmography also includes the global hit Sweet Home (2020). Apart from Suzy, the rest of the cast details for Men of the Harem are yet to be announced. Meanwhile, Suzy has a slew of upcoming projects, including the dramas Genie, Make a Wish, opposite Kim Woo-bin, and Delusion, alongside Kim Seon-ho. She’ll also star in the movie 7 O’Clock Breakfast Meeting for the Heartbroken, co-starring Lee Jin-uk.
