The upcoming second season of music-centric romance and drama series Bandish Bandits on Prime Video has released its first song, an appropriate Hindustani-pop fusion track called “Ghar Aa Mahi.”

Composed by Ana Rehman, with lyricist Shubham Shirule, the song brings together the vocals of pop artists Nikhita Gandhi and DigV aka Digvijay Singh Pariyar to act as a narrative point to the changing story of Bandish Bandits protagonists Radhe (Ritwik Bhowmik) and Tamanna (Shreya Chaudhry) grapple with ideas of identity and artistry. The series’ new season will begin airing on Prime Video from Dec. 13, 2024.

While the previous season’s soundtrack was helmed by hitmaker trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy – marking their debut project in the web series space – Rehman leads the first song in Bandish Bandits season 2, with “Ghar Aa Maahi” bringing together traditional instruments like sarangi and tabla with contemporary guitar and bass.

Gandhi says in a statement about her new song, “‘Ghar Aa Maahi’ is a beautiful intersection of Hindustani and pop, two worlds that are often seen as opposites. It’s a track that speaks to the heart and soul, celebrating the return to roots while exploring the courage it takes to grow and change. Recording this song was an immersive experience, as it captures the spirit of Bandish Bandits and the story of our lead characters – Radhe and Tamanna.”

DigV adds in his statement, “There’s an emotional resonance in ‘Ghar Aa Maahi’ that I believe will touch audiences deeply. As a singer, it was incredible to dive into this fusion of classical rhythms and modern beats. This song, like the show, celebrates the power of music to bridge divides.”

Produced by Amritpal Singh Bindra, and directed by Anand Tiwari, the Leo Media Collective Private Limited production Bandish Bandits will see the return of its versatile cast including Bhowmik and Chaudhry, plus Sheeba Chaddha, Atul Kulkarni, Rajesh Tailang, and Kunaal Roy Kapur. New cast members include Divya Dutta, Rohan Gurbaxani, Yashaswini Dayama, Aaliyah Qureshi and Saurabh Nayyar in pivotal roles. The music is being released via major label T-Series.

The first season of Bandish Bandits, for its part, generated songs like “Sajan Bin” and “Chedkhaniyaan” led by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy along with vocalists including Jonita Gandhi, Pratibha Singh Baghel and Shivam Mahadevan.
