The third edition of annual metal festival Bangalore Open Air [BOA] will take place on September 13th, in a scaled down format at Bengaluru venue CounterCulture. Indoor venue notwithstanding, the festival will include three international headline acts making their India debut ”“ German thrash metallers Destruction, Greek extreme metal band Rotting Christ and Italian brutal death metal band Cadaver Mutilator. Three Indian metal bands, Bengaluru-based folk metal band The Down Troddence, thrash metal veterans Threinody and Kolkata old school thrash metal band Armament, are also slated to perform at the festival.

Back in April, organizers of Bangalore Open Air announced they were crowdfunding 44 lakh rupees to host the annual festival in September. Tentative acts scheduled to perform included black metal pioneers Mayhem, along with prog rock artist Steven Wilson [from Porcupine Tree], among others. The 2013 edition of BOA included several international metal bands, including heavy metallers Iced Earth, prog metal band Animals as Leaders, Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity, black metal artist Ihsahn and prog metal band Leprous, from Norway. While the bid to follow-up with big international metal artists faced a setback after BOA’s crowdfunding campaign only gathered less than 10 percent of its goal, there still seems to be enough resolve to keep the festival going, without corporate sponsors.
