Ever since online radio channels took off in India in 2012, they have been doing the job of private FM channels by pushing Indian alternative music. Two such online music channels, Radio Flote and BC Radio, have now come together to launch IndiEarth Radio that will promote both Indian and international music.

IndiEarth Radio will play music curated by Chennai-based artist promotion agency IndiEarth, which boasts of a catalog of over 450 artists and bands. The channel was launched yesterday on Radio Flote and is set to be streamed on BC Radio from July 8th. Upon first listen, we found that the station features music by artists such as Shubha Mudgal, Karthick Iyer as well as bands like the Laya Project, Business Class Refugees, The Tetseo Sisters, The Shakey Rays and Skrat among others, with a focus on music by artists featured on the Laya Project, an album featuring music by a collective of artists from tsunami-affected regions of Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar and India.

Says one of the founders of BC Radio, Kaustub Pandey, “The concept of getting this exclusive channel was introduced to provide more versatility in our content to the users. We can get the regular bands but there are a lot of innovative projects running along side by side which includes collaboration of different artists such as Coke Studio, Dewarists etc. IndiEarth is one of the similar projects that has been functioning and creating wonderful content,”

IndiEarth Radio works as a streaming service and does not allow listeners to skip or repeat a song. However, with similar content finding its way on two different sites, BC Radio and Radio Flote do not consider one another to be competitors. “The word ”˜competition’ doesn’t feature when it comes to music. We’re all trying to help the musicians at the end of the day,” adds Sikanth Gopinath, co-founder of Radio Flote.
