Belgian Metallers BEAR Announce Debut India Tour

As part of gig series Unscene, the band will hit five cities in April

After a brief break from putting together alternative and metal acts from across the country as part of two-day monthly gig series Unscene, Bengaluru gig promoter and blogger Ramakrishnan Krishnan and sound engineer Abijith Rao scale up for a five-city tour in April. This time around, they’ve enlisted Belgium metal outfit BEAR for their first set of shows in Asia.

The Antwerp-based band, who came together in 2010, will perform in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Ahmedabad between April 5th and 14th. Guitarist James Falck says, “We have heard many things about how different the culture and way of life in India is as opposed to how it is in Europe. Over here we often lead a very closed life and often do our best to avoid others at all costs. We’ve been told of the generosity, kindness and passion of people in India, especially their passion for heavy music!”

For Krishnan, the idea to book the band came when he heard their 2017 album III, which was released by Basick Records. “I love the mad energy […] which I think would be fantastic seen live. And their live videos lend credence to that belief. When we approached the band, they seemed as excited as we were about an India tour.”

BEAR, comprising Falck, drummer Serch Carriere, bassist Dries Verhaert (whom Falck mentions has toured Indonesia with a previous band) and vocalist Maarten Albrechts, released their debut album Doradus in 2011 and followed up with Noumenon in 2013, which showcases a wrecking ball intensity that recalls metal and hardcore bands such as Botch and Norma Jean. Support acts for BEAR’s India tour with Unscene will be announced shortly.

April 5th - Above The Habitat, Mumbai
April 6th - The Moonshine Project, Hyderabad
April 8th - Fandom At Gilly’s Redefined, Bengaluru
April 12th - Cafe Turquoise Cottage, New Delhi
April 14th - #TheBigSquat at The Dugout Cafe, Ahmedabad
