Bengaluru Metallers Inner Sanctum Announce Lineup Change

Drummer Abhinav Yogesh returns to the fold, while fellow metal band Eccentric Pendulum’s guitarist Arjun Mulky replaces Suraj Gulvady

While it’s been a solid six months since Bengaluru metal act Inner Sanctum have played a show, they’ve just started showing signs of activity. Last month, they confirmed their performance alongside American metalcore band As I Lay Dying at Guwahati’s Fireball festival (January 2020) and now they’ve got changes in their lineup.

Inner Sanctum announced today that their original drummer Abhinav Yogesh – who had left citing personal and professional reasons in 2017 – will be back in the band. Replacing Jared Sandhy (from metallers Final Surrender), Yogesh mentioned on social media, “I couldn’t get to that point to take that decision to rejoin the band upon being asked, since I had moved on and was in a happy place with my drum school, travels and Himalayan treks after quitting the band. But now we are all getting into this with positivity and commitment!” Yogesh added that there’ll be “a new album to work on” and “another European tour to venture into.”

Last week, the band announced that guitarist Suraj Gulvady, who has been part of Inner Sanctum since 2011, would make way for Arjun Mulky (from metal band Eccentric Pendulum). The band’s statement said, “With Suraj’s varied projects and schedule, these plans wouldn’t be able to materialize. Hence, we are saddened to announce that Suraj will no longer be a full-time member of the band. But he will still be a part of the Inner Sanctum family and shall be involved as a live sessions-player, when the need arises.” Additionally, Sandhy too will stay on as a live sessions member.

With the lineup rounded off by vocalist Gaurav Basu, bassist Narayan Shrouthy and guitarist Chintan Chinnappa, the band – who released their rattling album Legions Awake in 2015 – are shifting gears. Chinnappa says, “It’s safe to say that the new Inner Sanctum lineup is one of the strongest ever. Abhinav and Arjun bring a lot to the table and this helps immensely towards the band’s future plans. The fans can expect new music and some killer live performances very soon!”
