Part of fusion duo Bryden-Parth and retro pop act Riverman Band, Ahamed is plotting an EP called 'Things I Have To Say'
A singer since the age of three, Bengaluru’s Ruhee Ahamed spent many of her developing years in school choirs, a cappella competitions and musicals. In 2010, she featured on “Prodigal,” a song by prog band Slain on their album Here & Beyond.
After a five year break for personal reasons, Ahamed returned to singing professionally and joined Slain guitarist Bryden Lewis’ fusion/covers act with flautist Parth Chandiramani and also became a voice-over artist who’s worked on backing vocal arrangements for composers. Carnatic prog fusion band Agam’s latest album A Dream to Remember saw Ahamed as part of a chorus for songs like “Subramanyena” and “Koothu Over Coffee.” She’s now focusing on herself by composing and singing on her own tracks and is out with her recently released debut single “Maybe I’m Foolish.”
The song is the first song off her upcoming EP Things I Have To Say and showcases gentle piano pop that swells over into rock territory. “This song pays homage to the bittersweet journey of the heart. A journey that unravels that long-standing relationship we all have had or cherish, filled with expectations and above all — love,” the vocalist says. Co-produced by Ahamed and Akshaj Balaji, “Maybe I’m Foolish” brings together guitarist Michael Antony Dias (from rock band Mad Orange Fireworks), bassist Prashanth Gnanamuthu (from rock act Perfect Strangers) and keyboardist Israel Thomas.
More songs from the EP are forthcoming, which Ahamed indicates to be deeply personal. The vocalist describes her music as “a piece of her soul that at some point was inspired by a feeling, a journey, a trial, a battle lost or a struggle fought.”
