Less than a year following the release of their debut full-length album Calamitunes, Bengaluru psychedelic/alternative band The Bicycle Days announced they will go on an “indefinite break.” Frontman Karthik Basker plans on concentrating on two of his upcoming projects ”“ Klypp, an electronica project with psychedelic/glitch artist Faheemul Hasan aka Avilente and his own solo work with an EP release lined up next month.

The Bicycle Days’ last performance was at the Magnetic Fields Festival in December, promoting Calamitunes, which picked up a nomination at the Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards for the Best Song [“Conundrum”]. Says Basker, “Personally, I found the problem of the gap between creating music and the time it comes out to very long. Ideas move much faster in my head.” Calamitunes took the band nearly three years to complete, following their debut EP 42, which was released in 2010.

Basker says his band has been discussing taking a break for a month or so. The frontman adds that they will only consider a reunion “maybe much later, a couple of years down.” Meanwhile, Basker and Hasan have been working on Klypp and their debut EP is in the mixing stages. They will release a music video for their first single, “Be” by the end of the month. Basker is also working on his solo project, which will involve collaborations he’s keeping to himself at the moment. Says Basker, “I haven’t released or uploaded this material [Klypp and solo songs] before. This will be the first time anyone’s hearing it.”
