BigHit Entertainment Unveil First Member of New Group TXT

The South Korean company revealed the mysterious upcoming boy group's member Yeonjun

BigHit Entertainment have unveiled their new boy group Tomorrow X Together and its first member, Yeonjun. Also known as TXT, the upcoming band are the second (and only other) group to debut under the South Korean label after K-pop megastars BTS’ debut in 2013.

The big reveal followed a 24-hour countdown which BigHit began on a website with the URL ‘comingsoon.ibighit.com’ last night at 8:30 pm IST (midnight KST) and an interactive venn diagram. Fans also found secret messages in the website’s coding hinting at the introduction to a ‘new boy group’ and searched across the Internet for more clues. Private or locked handles on social media plaftorms with the username ‘@TXT_bighit’ were also found (which in due course did turn out to belong to the upcoming band).

When the counter hit zero at 8:30 pm IST on January 10th (12 am, January 11th KST,) the website’s URL automatically updated to ‘txt.ibighit.com‘ with two images of Yeonjun and a solo introductory video. The group seem to be going for a fresh, young concept to reflect the boys’ reported average age of 17– in the video titled “Introduction Film – What do you do?” Yeonjun is seen playing at a video game arcade, surrounded by neon colors, gaming on PCs, eating junk food and just being an ordinary teen. The music in the short clip is a bright burst of rock and roll, adding a slight retro vibe to it all. The video ended with a message in morse code which fans have determined translates to the word ‘Dreaming.’

As of now Yeonjun’s full name, age and role in the group have not yet been made public by BigHit. Rumours about a new group and theories around possible members’ identities have been circulating for a long time, however the company only confirmed in November 2018 that they would be debuting a boy group in ‘the beginning of 2019.’

Tomorrow X Together (or Tomorrow By Together from their Korean name,) is rumored to consist of a total of five members. BigHit Entertainment has so far neither confirmed or denied the number, but has started a second countdown (at 70 hours as of publication) to another reveal on TXT’s website.

Yeonjun and TXT’s unveiling led to hashtags like #TOMORROW_X_TOGETHER, #Yeonjun and #BigHit trending on social media across the globe. BTS’ fandom ARMY are welcoming the new band with open arms, eager to see what more they have in store as well as what genres of music they will focus on. BTS’ meteoric rise over the past two years and highly impressive discography have made them a tough act to follow and all eyes that are currently on them will also now be on TXT.

UPDATE: In a statement to Billboard earlier today, BigHit Entertainment confirmed Yeonjun is 19 years old, a skilled dancer and that “TOMORROW X TOGETHER is a bright and youthful boyband where each member is different from one another, shining in their own way to create a synergy. Just as how their name suggests, the different members have all come together under one dream in hopes of building a new tomorrow.”
