Bionic Commando

Genre: Third Person Action Capcom/Xbox 360/PS3 Four Stars Rs 3499

To most, Bionic Commando would appear to be a spiffy new game free from any sort of legacy or old-school leanings. But this game is based on a franchise that had its roots in the Nintendo Entertainment System and has been in hibernation for around 20 years.
Beneath its gorgeous next-gen eye candy and lush environments lies a game that’s old school at heart, with a difficulty level that’s tough as nails. The enemies are smart ”“ They don’t just charge at you like in most games ”“ they try to flank you, pin you down and take you out.

You don the role of Nathan “Rad” Spencer (voiced by Faith No More’s Mike Patton), a soldier wrongfully put behind bars, who is given one chance at redemption if he tracks down a terrorist group responsible for bombing Ascension City. Seemingly cliched plot aside, most of the gameplay involves a lot of swinging like the Spiderman games. This is
because the protagonist is fitted with a bionic arm that allows him to swing from
one ledge to another.

Throw in a wide assortment of weapons ranging from pistols to rocket launchers, a vast open world that’s ripe for exploration and you have a game that rarely has a dull moment. An almost sadistic difficulty level aside, this is one of the more refreshing titles of the year. If you’re looking for something different on the PS3 or Xbox 360, Bionic
Commando is definitely worth considering and if you have the luxury of choosing between either version, I’d strongly suggest the Xbox 360 version because it plays smoother and doesn’t have require mandatory installation. With a long gameplay time and scaled up difficulty compared to other titles on the market, this isn’t a game for the
impatient lot.
