The desert festival’s first wave of artist announcements are finally here
Destination music festival Magnetic Fields returns to Alsisar, Rajasthan for its seventh edition from December 13th-15th. With the theme being “the law of the seven,” the desert fest is all set to bring vibrations that collide and strengthen the finest and coarsest of sounds, promising to create an experience built on what can be observed anywhere in the natural world.
The annual festival will open with a live set by New Delhi-based electronic duo Okedo. The BUDx South Stage will feature English electronic act Maribou State. Chennai alt rockers The F16s too return this year (after 2016) with British dance DJ/Producer Ross From Friends also performing.
JioSaavn Sundowner, the sunset stage, will front the festival debuts of electronica solo project Monophonik, alternative singer-songwriter and producer Pulpy Shilpy, Hindustani-electronica fusion synthesist Ose and a special set ‘Spektra’ by Mumbai electronic DJ Abhi Meer.
The Alsisar Mahal’s garden will play host to the BUDxYARD where Australian psych/dance DJ HAAi, French club producer Simo Cell and Indo-British hip-hop/trap DJ Shama Anwar will present dynamic night-time sets. The after dark Red Bull North Stage will witness performances by American techno/house DJ and musician The Black Madonna (who makes her India debut), Tunisian techno DJ/producer Deena Abdelwahed, Almaty-based acid/industrial DJ Nazira, South African gcom pioneer DJ Lag and Mumbai electronic artist Chhabb.
Dutch selector Hunee will stage an extended set as he returns (post 2015) for Paradise at The Peacock Club. South African electronic selector Esa will bring his sounds to The Jameson Underground for an all-night set centered on the theme of ‘Amandla: Music to the People.’
The festival will also host ‘Fieldlines,’ an immersive residency program for international and Indian sound artists who will live and work together in tandem with traditional folk musicians from the region. Supported by the Goethe-Institut Coproduction Fund grant and German electronic musicians and cultural activists Andi and Hannes Teichmann, the project will make a live presentation at the festival.
Magnetic Fields’ will close on Sunday night with a performance by UK DJ and producer Palms Trax who returns to the festival after 2015.
