New season will include a sequel to Season 4's sci-fi adventure "USS Callister" episode
Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical series Black Mirror will make a comeback in 2025. The popular Netflix show’s seventh season will have six episodes, including a sequel to Season 4’s sci-fi adventure “USS Callister.”
As a recap: The first episode of Season 4, “USS Callister,” draws inspiration from Star Trek: The Original Series. Jesse Plemons’ Daly, an agitated programmer and founder of a successful video game who doesn’t get full recognition, develops a space adventure where his USS Callister crew members are digital replicas of his work colleagues. After taking a liking to new hire Annette Cole, played by Cristin Milioti, she’s added to the sci-fi simulation too. After growing weary of listening to Daly’s every space command, the crew members team up to destroy the digital Daly, leaving real-life Daly lifeless in his chair at home.
As far as the seventh season goes, directed by Toby Haynes, Netflix shared that “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.”
Season 6 of the Black Mirror, which streamed in June 2023, begins with “Joan is Awful,” a tech company executive that discovers her life, without her consent, has been transformed into a drama series on Streamberry. Rolling Stone’s Alan Sepinwall called it the “best” episode of the latest season due to its parallels to streaming giant Netflix.
“It’s the only one of these five new installments to really play around with the series’ chief areas of interest about our overreliance on new (or upcoming) tech,” Sepinwall wrote.
