The untitled single will drop on August 28th
After weeks of mysterious teasers, South Korean girl group BLACKPINK have announced their next single is a collaboration with pop singer Selena Gomez, due for release on August 28th.
The confirmation comes after much speculation, with fans theorizing that the collaboration would either be with Gomez or Ariana Grande. Gomez confirmed the news on Twitter, stating, “So SO excited to announce @ygofficialblink and I have a new song coming out August 28th!”
In June this year BLACKPINK made a massive comeback with the pre-release single “How You Like That,” breaking several records including most-viewed YouTube clip in 24 hours, most-viewed music video on YouTube in 24 hours and the most-viewed music video by a K-pop act in 24 hours. Currently the video for “How You Like That” sits at over 414 million views.
BLACKPINK will release a third single in September and their much-awaited first LP The Album on October 2nd. Comprising 10 tracks, the full-length studio album will be their first since their 2016 debut. With rapper Jennie having already made her solo debut in 2019, YGE also stated that members Rosé, Lisa, and Jisoo would release their own solo projects in 2020 and 2021, with an album from vocalist Rosé’s first on the agenda. Earlier this year BLACKPINK also collaborated with Lady Gaga on “Sour Candy,” a track featured on the latter’s album Chromatica which released in May.
2020 has also been a big year for Gomez, who released her third studio album Rare in January which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The singer-songwriter is also executive producer on a brand new cooking show on HBO Max titled Selena + Chef.
