Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus Reveals He’s Battling Cancer

“I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive,” bassist writes

Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus revealed on social media Wednesday that he is currently battling cancer. He first alluded to having the disease in a quickly deleted Instagram post from Wednesday morning. It featured a photo from what appeared to be a hospital room where he looked to be undergoing treatment, as Variety notes. “Yes hello. One cancer treatment, please,” he captioned the shot.

Several hours later, he confirmed the diagnosis. “For the past three months I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer,” the bassist-singer wrote in a statement. “I have cancer. It sucks and I’m scared, and at the same time I’m blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this.”

The 49-year-old Hoppus did not announce what type of cancer he is battling, but shared his optimism that  he would beat it.

“I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive,” Hoppus added. “Can’t wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the near future. Love to you all.”

Though he has been undergoing chemo for the last three months, per his statement, he’s continued to celebrate Blink-182 milestones. Earlier in the month, he posted about the 20th anniversary of Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. “After the overwhelming and unexpected success of Enema of the State we wanted to write a darker, harder album that pushed the boundaries of what blink-182 could do,” he wrote of the album. “I love this record. Thank you to everyone who listened to it then and continues to put it on two decades later.”
