After a seven-month hiatus, Blue Frog Delhi is back. Their first month offers a promising calendar packed with trance, drum n’bass, hip hop  and more. Working partially in tandem with The Comedy Store, the schedule features both domestic and international artists, playing every Friday and Saturday night from May into June.

The club first opened its doors in Delhi in 2012, following the success of their Mumbai counterpart. Over the years, they have played host to a slew of acts ranging from the relatively new Kolkata-based fusion band Mrittika to the well established Mumbai hardcore band Scribe. Says Gaurav Raina, one half of Delhi electronica act Midival Punditz, “The frog has been like a second home for us. We are so looking forward to doing some more banging gigs there.”

Sufi-funk band Faridkot will launch their second album Phir Se?, at the reopened venue at the end of the month. Says band manager Anirudh Singh, “Blue Frog is one of the premier venues for independent music. They always come up with unique gigs and get down talented artists, both national and international. I think this is great news for the scene itself and a sign that independent music in Delhi is here to stay.”

Adds Blue Frog’s director, Mahesh Mathai, “We’ve got a new franchise partner, and we’ve made the bar design more accessible. The programming will remain similar to what we do in Bombay.”

Blue Frog Delhi reopens on May 23, 2014.
