Mumbai gig goers may have more reason to make a trek to Pune, besides their annual Bacardi NH7 Weekender festival trip. As we had noted earlier, the folks at popular music venue, Blue Frog, are set to open their third property in October this year. Slated to open in Pune’s Yerawada area, the venue (estimated to be a 4,000 sq ft space) is located opposite Ishanya Mall. Blue Frog, Pune is also located next to a 600-seater amphitheater that the music venue hopes to utilize for gigs. Says Mahesh Mathai, one of the founders of Blue Frog, “It’s (the amphitheater) a great outdoor space where we can host gigs until the 10 pm deadline, after which we will feature shows at the club.” Mathai adds that besides gigs, Blue Frog plans to host theatre and dance performances at the amphitheater. “Pune has a big market. Also the Mumbai audience doesn’t mind travelling there for big gigs,” says Mathai.

Gig goers can also look forward to shelling out less money on gig nights with Pune’s comparatively lower entertainment taxes. “From the tax point of view, yes, gig going will become cheaper. We have had to charge a lot of money because of taxes and other charges in Mumbai, so the gigging experience will change with this venue,” adds Mathai.
