Bombay Bassment And Reggae Rajahs To Open For Snoop Lion
Mumbai hip hop band and Delhi reggae act will play in Pune and Gurgaon as part of American rapper’s debut concert in India
As American rapper Snoop Dogg changed his moniker to Snoop Lion in July last year, he also made public his newfound liking for reggae music. In fact, he is said to have undergone an artistic rebirth of sorts after a visit to Jamaica. This month, when Snoop Lion makes his India debut, Mumbai hip hop reggae act Bombay Bassment will open for the rap star in Pune and Delhi reggae act Reggae Rajahs will open for him at the Gurgaon concert. “Bob comes from a hiphop and rap background and naturally, Snoop is one of his biggest influences,” says Bombay Bassment drummer Levin Mendes, referring to his band’s Kenyan frontman Bob Omulo, “This is the first time we’ll play a big gig for an international artist.” For their 45 minute set, Bombay Bassment will perform their recent hits such as dubstep number “Midnight” and other well known songs like “Jump N Stomp” and “Happy People”.
Reggae Rajahs, who will open for Snoop in Gurgaon are rather enthusiastic about the international artist turning to Rastafarianism and reggae music. “It’s great that he’s into reggae music now. We plan to show the Indian reggae scene on stage,” says Raghav ”˜Diggy’ Dang, the Delhi group’s frontman. For their improv opening set, Dang, who is also part of the Delhi band The Ska Vengers, will rope in bandmates Samara Chopra and Delhi Sultanate from the ska band.  “We will play some of our newer material like “Make Up Your Mind”,” adds Dang.Â
Ahead of Snoop’s performance, DJ Asad aka Freeaathmah and DJ Sa will take to the console in Pune and DJ Whosane and DJ Lil’ B will perform in Gurgaon.Â
