We're breaking down the five most compelling posters from 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.'

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power lands on Amazon Prime Video this September. Set thousands of years prior to the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the anticipated show is based on author J. R. R. Tolkien’s history of Middle-earth.

The series is set to delve into the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men. 23 super exciting character posters were recently released to tease The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. We thought of breaking down the five most compelling ones.

1. Sauron

This poster in all likelihood teases the ultimate enforcer of evil in J.R.R. Tolkien’s LOTR trilogy. Details such as the dark gauntlet remind us of what Sauron dons in The Fellowship of the Ring. The dark obsidian vibe and detailing only further intrigue us about what The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will delve into when it comes out. It’s going to be super interesting to see how the series explores the origins and story of the future Dark Lord of Mordor.

2. Glorfindel

Our best guess is that the character this poster teases is Elf-lord Glorfindel. Though he has no dialogue in the LOTR movies, the character has appeared in the films. We can spot the insignia of his house, the House of Golden Flowers, which is a sun. This is pretty strong evidence that points towards his character appearing in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Another sign that this could be Glorfindel is that he was present in Middle Earth at the time the One Ring was forged.

3. Yavanna

We venture this person donning the blue dress and brown robe with a sickle in the hand is the Ainur and Valar, Yavanna, an immortal heavenly being. She is one of the Aratars who is also understood to be Kementári aka the Queen of Earth. It is Yavanna who eventually sent the wizard Radagast the Brown to Middle Earth. She is comparable to the Greek goddess Demeter who reigns over crop growth and fertility as well as Gaia or Mother Earth.

4. Ar-Pharazôn the Golden

Well given the aurum on display in this poster, it’s a safe bet that this character is the last king of Númenor, Ar-Pharazôn the Golden, or a predecessor of his. Ar-Pharazôn was the most powerful Númenorean king but is infamous in LOTR lore for using it disastrously, especially as his wish for eternal life led to the destruction of his kingdom and a change of the world. It’s always entertaining to see powerful people beseech to folly and we’re looking forward to this character in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

5. Narvi

We would wager that the character this poster teases is Narvi, Dwarf-Lord of Khazad-dûm (Moria) in the mid-second age. The huge hammer and hands flecked with gold coupled with the fact that we can spot Dwarf runes of the tool point towards this most likely being Narvi. His role is noteworthy in the LOTR universe for partly making the Doors of Durin and the West Gate of Moria. We can also spot a red beard which strongly hints at this character being a dwarf.
