British Electronic/Hip-Hop Producer Nightmares on Wax Adds More India Shows

George Evelyn, who will be at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune, also stops by Bengaluru and New Delhi this December

Leeds, U.K.-bred experimental hip-hop producer George Evelyn aka Nightmares on Wax will play three cities on his upcoming debut India tour this December. Active since the late Eighties, Nightmares on Wax is readying DJ sets not just at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune on December 9th, but also in Bengaluru on December 7th and in New Delhi on December 8th.

A leading man at the decks of all things downtempo, Nightmares on Wax’s musical style was shaped by Evelyn’s days in the breakdancing circuit as well as illegal parties in warehouses and basements in Leeds. He counts legendary producer-songwriters such as Quincy Jones and Curtis Mayfield as his formative influences. Eight albums and countless tours across the world later, Evelyn moved to Ibiza in 2006, and although his latest ”“ Shape the Future, which released in January this year via the long-standing Warp Records ”“ features plenty of live elements, he prefers DJing.

The producer-DJ told Ghettoblaster, “I am an artist but it’s the DJing that got me here in the first place so I think that that ingredient is so important because it also gives me an alternative perception of how I make music.”

Shape the Future draws together sounds of jazz, hip-hop, soul and more, featuring London-based alternative artist Jordan Rakei, singer-songwriter Sadie Walker and more. Evelyn told Skiddle about the record, “The underlying thread of the album is waking up to the realization of your relationship to the reality you’re living in. And how much you play a part in that. When I say you, obviously I mean everybody.”

Nightmares on Wax’s India tour is being presented by Mumbai-based music management agency Mixtape. Get tickets here.
