South Korean mega stars BTS have announced an ‘offline and online’ concert titled ‘Map of the Soul ON:E.’ Set to take place over October 10th and 11th, 2020, the concert will be the septet’s first ‘in-person’ concert of this year. According to a press release, the event will be conducted both online and offline simultaneously.
Like most concerts and live shows in 2020, BTS’ tour plans were also effected by the global spread of COVID-19. Originally set to begin in April with five shows in their home city Seoul, the septet’s ‘Map Of The Soul’ tour was set to be one of the biggest shows of the year, expanding into dates in North America in late April, with more in Europe and Japan later on in the year. The tour was set around the release of the group’s latest studio album Map of the Soul: 7 which dropped in February. After the rise of the coronavirus, BTS were forced to reschedule and then completely cancel their shows for 2020.
A statement from the group’s label Big Hit Entertainment clarifies that the offline version of ‘Map of the Soul ON:E’ will have ‘limited seating’ and will comply with the South Korean government’s mandated concert seat distancing measures for COVID-19 prevention. More information on what this entails, including ticket prices and the venue, are yet to be revealed.
‘Map of the Soul ON:E’ will follow the release of BTS’ upcoming single “Dynamite,” which is set to drop on August 21st. Fans theorize that the concert will feature performances from Map of the Soul: 7, which were originally meant for the ‘Map Of The Soul’ tour.
Earlier this year, the group attempted to make up the postponement of the tour to fans with Bang Bang Con (a two-day long stream of their older concerts) and Bang Bang Con The Live (a mini-concert/gig), both of which drew a record-breaking number of viewers. The numbers for Bang Bang Con The Live were particularly powerful and unprecedented for any live-streamed show–the gig pulled a paying audience of over 756,600 fans across 107 regions.
According to BigHit Entertainment, BTS will also release a new album in the ‘fourth quarter’ of 2020.
