BTS Break Hot 100 Record with ‘Butter’

With the release of this week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart, BTS’ “Butter” is officially the Number One track on the chart for the ninth week. This makes it the longest-running Number One song of 2021 so far, surpassing Oliva Rodrigo’s eight-week record with “Drivers License.”

Generating 30.5 million radio airplay audience impressions, 8.1 million U.S. Streams and 112,900 downloads sold, “Butter” continues to serve as BTS’ most successful English track. Coming in ninth on this week’s chart is the group’s follow-up Summer single, “Permission To Dance.” The tracks have also occupied the Number One and Number Two spot on this week’s top-selling songs in the U.S.

With “Butter,” “Permission To Dance,” and their first English single, “Dynamite” (2020) BTS also holds the top three spots on the best-selling digital downloads this year in the U.S. alone.

While it’s notable that “Butter” has been making waves in America, the single has also solidified its position as the Number One track on the IMI (Indian Music Industry) International Top 20 Singles Chart for 10 weeks, followed by “Permission To Dance” which has spent three weeks as the Number One track on the charts. “Dynamite” and the group’s November 2020 release “Life Goes On” have also made their respective appearances on the chart.

Aside from its chart achievements, “Butter” also holds YouTube’s record of the music video with the highest views in 24 hours (71.6 million views), the biggest music video Premiere (over 3.9 million peak concurrents) and the biggest debut on Spotify ever with 11 million filtered streams. “Butter” has also replaced “Dynamite” to become the fastest song to hit 100 million streams on the platform– a record the group achieved in just eight days.

“Dynamite”– the track that gave BTS their first Grammy nomination this year– has also provided the group with an all-access pass into Spotify’s Billions Club, making the septet the first Korean act to achieve this record.
