While the news of a BTS and Megan Thee Stallion collaboration was a massive surprise to audiences—coming to light just two days ago—it was definitely a welcome one.

The single sees Megan opening the track announcing the collaboration, “It’s the hot girl coach and BTS.” The remix does justice to Megan’s feature via a full-fledged rap verse placed right after the chorus. Mirroring the general theme of the track, the American artist explains her own growth, hard work and magnetism, “I remember writing my flows in college/ Now I need global entry to the shows I’m rocking/ Smooth like cocoa butter / My drip more than puddle.”

There aren’t any major changes to the instrumentals and the track’s original upbeat vibe prevails through the remix.

Announced on August 25th, the existence of “Butter Remix” was made public to audiences after Megan Thee Stallion’s legal victory over her label 1501 Certified Entertainment. According to documents unearthed by TMZ, the rapper was being prevented from releasing the collaboration with BTS.

The documents revealed 1501’s legal representative informed 300 Entertainment (Megan’s music distributor) that the only way they would approve the feature would be through a monetary arrangement of $100,000 which will be fully retained by 1501 Entertainment, with the rapper getting no share from it. According to Megan, both her legal team and BTS’ had been trying to negotiate with 1501, with no success.

After a long legal battle that played out behind the scenes, Megan has come out victorious, allowing her and BTS to finally drop the “Butter” remix today after several months of waiting.

Based on court filings, it was BTS who contacted Megan to feature on a new version of their second all-English single “Butter.” With a “strong desire to participate in the remix,” Megan proceeded to record her verse earlier this year. Although the artists could not tease the collaboration in the months leading up to its release, the “Butter” remix met the pre-approved timelines.

The remix was received with a huge amount of enthusiasm from both BTS and Megan’s fandoms, amassing over 3.5 million views in less than an hour of its release and trending on social media for more than 24 hours before it dropped.
